Janetta M. Hammock, MS, CDP

Janetta M. Hammock is Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at Magnificat High School, a Catholic, all-girls college prep school located in Rocky River, Ohio. She began her term on the NETWORK Board of Directors in spring 2023.

As Senior Director of Diversity, she partners with the school’s Leadership Team to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion across all departments. In addition, she works with faculty to infuse social and racial justice issues into the curriculum, provides diversity training to faculty, staff, and students, and works with student affinity groups. She also led the work of the school’s Anti-Racism Advisory Task Force.

Prior to her work at Magnificat, Ms. Hammock worked at Cleveland area universities in various diversity positions, including Director of Diversity and Strategic Initiatives at Case Western Reserve University and Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at John Carroll University. She also served as an Assistant Director in the Office of Government and Public Affairs at the American Council on Education in Washington, DC.

A certified diversity professional (CDP) who lives in Cleveland, Ohio, Ms. Hammock earned masters degrees in philosophy with an emphasis in diversity management from Cleveland State University and in African American Studies from Morgan State University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University.

What calls you to NETWORK? Where do you find inspiration in this work?

I have spent much of my professional career working for social and racial justice for individuals and communities of color. NETWORK allows me to continue this work and to engage with like-minded, faith-filled individuals. NETWORK’s commitment to centering racial justice and equity at the heart of its political ministry aligns with my passion and personal ministry. The mission and commitment of NETWORK inspires me to “level up” in my spiritual life, in my work to assist those in need, and in efforts to dismantle unjust systems and policies.

What do you like to do outside of NETWORK?

I love relaxing and visiting with family and friends, live theatre, and summer concerts. Summer is my favorite season, and I enjoy relaxing and meditating at the beach. Recently, I have taken up gardening. I have much to learn in this area, but I enjoy working in the soil and eating and sharing my fresh vegetables with others.
