NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice Supports Equality Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic Sisters and activists of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice strongly support H.R. 5, the Equality Act and urge Congress to pass this legislation. On Tuesday, Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice, joined faith leaders at the Faith for Equality Interfaith Prayer Vigil outside the U.S. Capitol.

“Justice demands that every member of our human family is protected from hate and discrimination,” said Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice. “It is the role of government to protect all of their people. Therefore, the Equality Act is a necessity. Our Christian faith must not be used to deny the inherent dignity of every person. The efforts of some people of faith to do so denies the sacredness of LGBTQ+ people and is an attack on the common good. Congress must pass the Equality Act and enshrine LGBTQ+ civil rights into law.”

NETWORK is open to all who share our passion. The Catholic Sisters and activists of NETWORK are proud to support our LGBTQ+ friends and colleagues to ensure they live free from discrimination. In NETWORK’s efforts to mend the gaps in our society, no one will be left behind.

“The Equality Act offers critical legal protections to folks in the LGBTQ+ community so that they can participate and exist in our society without subjection to discriminatory, punitive practices,” said Sister Quincy Howard, OP, a member of the NETWORK Government Relations Team working to pass the Equality Act. “Without this legislation, members of the LGBTQ+ community can be fired at will, denied a place to live, and refused medical care based on judgements about a deeply personal and intimate aspect of their identity. The Catholic Sisters and activists of NETWORK urge Congress to vote yes on H.R. 5 and pass the Equality Act.”
