Project 2025 Clashes Disturbingly With Catholic Social Teaching, Says NETWORK
For Immediate Release: August 28, 2024
WASHINGTON—Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation policy document proposed as a blueprint for a future presidential administration, is an extremist plan for reshaping the United States that clashes with the principles of Catholic social teaching, the organization NETWORK Advocates for Catholic Social Justice asserts in a new informational resource.
“Project 2025 contrasts—in deep and disturbing ways—with the teachings and principles of Catholic social teaching that have long shaped the life and ministries of Catholic Sisters in this country and NETWORK’s own advocacy and policy agenda,” said Sr. Eilis McCulloh, HM, Grassroots Education and Organizing Specialist. “This proposed agenda guts civil rights protections, reinforces the ultra-rich and corporations at the expense of everyone else, and autocratically expands the role of the federal executive branch.”
Joan F. Neal, NETWORK Deputy Executive Director & Chief Equity Officer, added, “Our resource emerged out of an urgent demand from our field of faith-filled justice-seekers who are concerned about the future of our democracy. NETWORK is pleased to offer a resource through the lens of Catholic teaching that explains so many of the ways that Project 2025 clashes with our values. So many of the things that help communities thrive are threatened in Project 2025, and it should be rejected by everyone, especially people of faith.”
“Project 2025 in Contrast with Catholic Social Justice: A Future for Few/A Future for All,” is part of NETWORK’s nonpartisan voter education campaign, “Vote Our Future” and can be found online. The document illustrates the ways in which Project 2025 clashes with the tenants of Catholic social teaching about support for families, access to health care, care for the environment, civil and voting rights, safe communities, and concern for immigrants.
