WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the Trump administration rolling back the Affordable Care Act’s mandate on contraceptive coverage, Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:
“Today’s decision by the Trump administration to roll back women’s healthcare is yet another assault on the Affordable Care Act and women.
“The language used in the ACA was a result of President Obama and other elected officials listening to sincerely held religious beliefs—as well as the needs of women. Our government must always respect the freedom and dignity of all and provide everyone with the space necessary to exercise his or her own conscience.
“No one—whether a business owner or the president of the United States—should use religious liberty or moral conviction as a guise to take away healthcare from women.
“Consistent with my faith, I believe in the freedom of conscience and the dignity of everyone to determine their healthcare needs with their doctor, and not have financial and religious barriers get in the way.”
