Tax Justice

The bipartisan Child Tax Credit bill has stalled
Health Care
Win
The Biden Administration’s American Rescue Act significantly strengthened the expanded Medicaid coverage passed in 2014, and now 41 states have expanded Medicaid coverage.
Current Reality
The Farm Bill, which is stalled in Congress by GOP demands for large funding cuts, is needed now to provide needed food assistance to vulnerable persons and communities though Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), school lunches, senior meals, and support for food banks and soup kitchens. Another life-affirming policy stalled in Congress is the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act, to invest in needed financial supports to reduce mortality risks and improve the health of new mothers and their babies.
Labor
Win
The Inflation Reduction Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 created 14 million new, good-paying union jobs, including 800,000 jobs in manufacturing and 210,000 in clean energy.
Current Reality
Wealthy corporations and the elected leaders they influence in Congress don’t want to pay workers a living wage, so they block efforts that would raise the minimum wage and protect workers’ freedom to join unions.
Immigration
Win
The FY 24 budget provided funds for the Shelter and Services Program to support welcoming communities and help cities and states meet the needs of newly arrived people.
Current Reality
Meaningful immigration reform has been unmet for decades. GOP Congressional leadership has blocked widely-supported reform, including a path to citizenship for immigrants who have built their lives in the U.S.
Asylum seekers are forced to wait at the southern border in inhumane conditions, subject to assault, torture, kidnapping, and rape, and often torn from their families.
Climate
Win
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the largest legislative effort yet to address climate change and increase US energy security included $738 billion for: renewable energy and grid energy storage, safe nuclear power, elective vehicle incentives, home energy efficiency upgrades, advanced green economy manufacturing and urban and rural racial environmental justice initiatives.
Current Reality
Coal, oil and gas are by far the largest contributor to global climate change but fossil fuel companies pose obstacles to progress with their access to huge revenues, profits, and tremendous political influence.
Wealthy oil companies have a track record of pushing disinformation campaigns and false or misleading climate solutions. Yet they receive billions of dollars in federal tax breaks and subsidies, at the expense of our ability to combat the climate crisis and invest in critical initiatives like education, housing, infrastructure and health care.

Ways to Join Our Advocacy
Individual
Join us online for webinars and trainings, send messages to Congress, or come out to an in-person events. Justice seekers can join us for training workshops, write letters to the editor, go to lobby visits and more.
With a Friend
Do all you would do as an individual, but with the company of the people in your life. Amplify our actions when you engage in advocacy with a friend, family member, parishioner, etc.
As a Team
Members and supporters in certain cities, towns, and states may join a NETWORK Advocates Team. Teams hold regular meetings online or in-person, lobby Congress, and take more actions together with guidance from a NETWORK Grassroots Mobilization organizer.
