Press Advisory: Sister Simone Campbell to Testify on Poverty before Rep. Paul Ryan’s Committee

Washington, DC: On Wednesday, July 31, Sister Simone Campbell*, NETWORK Executive Director, will testify before the House Budget Committee, which is chaired by Representative Paul Ryan. The hearing is entitled “The War on Poverty: A Progress Report,” and she will talk about the vital role that government-funded programs play in partnership with church/private initiatives. Without them more children would be hungry and more hardworking families would suffer.
In addition to Sister Simone Campbell, the committee will hear testimony from Eloise Anderson, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families; Jon Baron, president of the Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy; and Douglas Bersharov, professor at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.
