Catholic Lobby Calls on Trump Administration to Sign Letter of Ascertainment Immediately
Sr. Simone: “Put your country ahead of partisan politics and move forward with the transition process.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – More than a week after President-elect Biden’s victory was decided by voters across the country, the Catholic Sisters and advocates of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice demand the Trump administration authorize the Biden Transition Team to begin its work. The refusal of Emily Murphy, head of the General Services Administration, to ascertain the plain fact that Joe Biden is President-elect adds additional roadblocks to the transition in administrations just as our nation is in the midst of crises. This is dangerous and must end.
Sister Simone Campbell, SSS, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice said:
“President Trump reveals the extent of his selfishness by refusing to accept the results of the election and begin the transition process. This selfishness has consequences.
“Right now, families and communities across our nation are suffering as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Too many families are facing economic catastrophe. A smooth transition of power is a key component in distributing a vaccine, reining in the virus, and providing needed economic supports. It is a constitutional mandate that President Trump must choose our country’s health and safety over his ego.
“I call on all public servants to put your country ahead of partisan politics and move forward with the transition process. Millions of lives are in your hands.”
