NETWORK Commends House of Representatives on Passage of Budget Deal
Tralonne Shorter: “I applaud Congress and the Trump administration for working
together to finally put an end to sequestration.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to yesterday’s House passage of a new spending caps agreement, NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice expresses its appreciation for a 2-year bipartisan deal to lift the spending caps.

NETWORK urges the Senate to follow suit and pass this agreement. We are hopeful that raising the spending caps will allow our elected officials to create a responsible FY 2020 budget that mends the gaps in our nation and promotes the common good, not the interests of the wealthiest and most powerful. NETWORK issued the following statement:

Tralonne Shorter, NETWORK Senior Government Relations Advocate said:

“I applaud Congress and the Trump administration for working together to finally put an end to sequestration. This agreement will jumpstart the appropriations process in the Senate and ultimately allow Congress to pass spending bills that provide much needed relief to working families across the country.

“Our faith teaches that we all share the responsibility of promoting the common good. Our elected officials failed the common good when they enacted the 2017 tax law that placed profits for the few over the interests of the many. We call on Congress now to do better.  End sequestration and pass a just, compassionate FY 2020 federal budget.”

Furthermore, the NETWORK community marks this vote as a victory in the long fight against sequestration, which inspired the original “Nuns on a Bus” tour in 2012.
