Defense of the unborn is clear.

1.) Seeks to reduce access to abortion through federal policy

President Trump has indicated support for adding further restrictions on access to abortion,1 including speaking to the March for Life in 2019.2

Vice President Biden supports upholding Roe v. Wade and repealing the Hyde amendment.3

2.) Would increase pregnant women’s access to health care and nutrition

President Trump supports repealing the ACA1 and cutting Medicaid funding, both of which would reduce pregnant women’s access to health care.2 (Medicaid is a critical source of healthcare for pregnant women; just under half of all births in the U.S. are covered by Medicaid.)3 Also, President Trump’s FY 2020 federal budget included a $275 million cut to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).4

Vice President Biden is a proponent of health and nutrition programs that lead to better health outcomes for pregnant women and infants. This includes protecting and building off of the Affordable Care Act5 and increasing investment in Medicaid6 and WIC.7

3.) Addresses maternal mortality, particularly for Black women

President Trump signed Preventing Maternal Deaths Act into law, a bipartisan bill that establishes state committees to evaluate and reduce maternal mortality rates.1 While he signed the bill, he did not say anything publicly in support of the legislation, nor is there any mention of maternal mortality on his campaign website2 or twitter feed.3

In Vice President Biden’s campaign platform, he names our country’s high rate of maternal mortality, 4 especially for Black women,5 and says how he will reduce it.
